I'll let this article speak for itself but I was a little surprised to learn the size of these GDP gaps. Apparently, most of the states of the United States are more productive than the nations of the rest of the world. Even the poorest American state of Mississippi outranks Italy and South Korea for per capita economic activity. (Click on this link to see the full article.)
Note that GDP = Gross Domestic Product which (when split per capita) is the economic output of each individual of the countries listed.
